Delphi, XM Radio make portable satellite radio a reality

Delphi and XM Radio have teamed to bring the first portable satellite radio, the Delphi MyFi to market. This $349.99 device, announced yesterday, allows XM Radio subscribers to tune into one of XM's 130 digital satellite channels without needing the customary external antenna (an internal one is built into the handheld unit).

The MyFi will also tune into FM broadcasts, record up to five hours of XM programming for later listening, have 30 channel presets and provide five hours of rechargeable battery life. All of the necessary textual information, such as channel tuned to or artist name, can be viewed on an illuminated, six-line LCD display which will also scroll a personal stock ticker and sports score ticker which is pushed from XM.

The MyFi is expected to be available in early December.
